People often ask me how I’m able to work three jobs, deal with SLE Lupus, dress well and still accomplish so much effectively. My answer: “It’s not easy but it’s doable with a little finesse and organization. Since the main obstacles I encounter every day are pain and physical exhaustion, I work to maintain routines and balance in my life. Even if you don’t face, each day with my challenges I believe you can still gain something valuable from the five tips, I’m going to share with you.
- Tip 1: Work when you have the most energy and your environment’s the most peaceful. I usually do my exercises for my lupus arthritis in the morning, and although I haven’t had the strength to do full yoga, yet, the arm exercises really revive me.The morning is also an excellent time for me to coordinate my outfits for the day, and the week, write in my journal, and eat breakfast.
- Tip 2: Celebrate small accomplishments. “Big accomplishments, like getting a promotion at work, or earning a degree are definitely worth celebrating, but it’s good to mentally celebrate, small accomplishments to recognize your functionality in the face of a disability, like mine, stress, or other life-changing adjustments. I like to celebrate doing small things, such as (1) reading to my Kitty son Zombie; (2) learning a new dance like the Boots on the Ground line dance or the Crip walk ; (3) organizing paperwork or clothes; (4) working on my book project, “I Love Your Look: Real Style for Real Women”; and (5) working on an article I’m in the middle of writing.
- Tip 3: Make time to recharge your batteries and court inspiration. “Just to keep my sanity and escape from the stresses of the outside world for a little while I try to disengage and do the following : (1) take a nap in the afternoon with Zombie; (2) look at a movie, TV show or documentary; (3) read a magazine or fashion book (The Ellements of Style is a good one); (4) draw, paint or create something DIY; and (5) visit an art museum or gallery.
- Tip 4: Wear are your clothes wisely and be your own role model. Since my blogs, Every Day Fashion: Style for the Mainstream, Lookin’ Good, Feelin’ Good, and Stylish Musings and Inspirations have to do with the philosophy of Every Day Style I’m my own role, model, and dress the part whenever I go out. Although I look up to an aspire to be as influential as Jenna Lyons, Audrey Hepburn, and Coco Chanel I also want to tell my own story to the world on a daily basis.
- Tip 5: Maintain your own Every Day look that fits you and your personal aesthetic. Overall my personal style is trendy, Vintage Femme, chill and casual in my aesthetic (the way I see beauty)is haute couture and Y2K. That means I like to mix clothing and accessories in neglected manner to reflect the sartorial story. I’m trying to tell every day. For instance,if I know I’m going to have a challenging workday I might channel Coco, Chanel and Audrey Hepburn and wear a denim jacket from Uniqlo over white pearl decorated T (Simone Rocha x H&M a red bubble 1950 style skirt from TJ Maxx, and a pair faux two- tone, ballet flats.
