From the second, I saw the striking Picasso-sequel cream and white T-shirt design by Mekenzy Linder the winner of of Target’s HBCU Design Challenge online I knew I had to buy it. A perfect depiction of the contest’s “theme of Remixed Traditions” the bi-color palette is further enriched by the luxurious cotton sourced at Bridgeforth Farms, a “black-owned farm based in Tanner, Alabama.”

The main thing that drew me to the design is its bold connection to primitive Africanism and contemporary street style.

Named ICON Linder said “This project was designed to recover trends and styles pioneered by Black people that are now replicated in mainstream popular culture.”

Since I’m an African-American female, who, often combines vintage, retro, ethnic, contemporary, masculine and feminine together to tell my sartorial story, I appreciate the effort and will enjoy wearing the t-shirt.
